Tenant Services

    Connection and reintegration

Part of what keeps us strong as Indigenous Peoples is a sense of belonging, connection to community, a sense of purpose and an opportunity to share our gifts.  We support our tenants by facilitating connections to other Indigenous agencies and programs throughout the City of Hamilton, and we create community wherever our units are located.

    Case management

Those in need of housing or who are precariously housed are often involved with social service, justice or child and family systems.  It can be overwhelming to navigate all the requirements put on those accessing supports while trying to keep a roof over their heads.  At Sacajawea, we help our tenants understand program requirements as well as providing advocacy on their behalf.

    Life skills

Life skills are everyday skills that help us all to become more resilient and independent.  Our tenants can participate in workshops on everything from relationship building to money and time management to cooking to coping with stress.  As requests for different workshops are made, Sacajawea engages our circle of teachers to respond to tenant needs.

    Indigenous Cultural Workshops

Indigenous culture is rich and deep, and there are teachings and meaning behind everything our Peoples do.  Sacajawea also recognizes that a strong sense of identity creates health in all four directions; physical, mental, spiritual and emotional.  That is why we facilitate opportunities for our tenants to participate in many cultural activities, crafts, ceremonies and medicines taught by Elders and Knowledge-Keepers.
